We are pleased to bring you the third video from Open Flames, a new piece by Jesse Ewles with production help from Mike Juneau. Whales strike back at poachers! BP gets corrugated! We hope you like it.

Also noteworthy is a new Soundcloud mixtape put together by the folks at The Line of Best Fit. It features a Bruce Peninsula song from each of our releases, as well as a track from each of the various side projects that have orbited around BP over the years. It includes songs from the projects of former members like Taylor, Katie and Casey and nearly all of the current members. Fire Sale Installment # 2

Last year, a six-piece version of BP got in the van for a little tour of Michigan, Illinois and Iowa. We had a good time in Detroit and Chicago and at Knox College in Galesburg but the whole reason for the trip was to visit the fine fellows at Daytrotter.

It's a beautiful thing they have going there. Nestled atop a pizza joint in Rock Island, IL, you'd never know that the Daytrotter guys record a couple bands a day every single day at their unassuming studio. They were very inviting and patient with us, considering none of us had ever done a live-off-the-floor, get-it-right-quick taping before.

Rock Island is part of the Quad Cities, uniting with Davenport, Bettendorf and Moline. When we finished up, the DT guys pointed us over the bridge and into Iowa, where we found a casino / hotel / cruise ship that had cheap rooms. A bottle of tequila, some pizza, a little gambling and too much Wife Swap later, I can safely say it produced one of the best memories we've got.

Summer Time

We're gonna spend our time on docks and bikes this summer, getting reacquainted with the good parts of being in a band, so it's not going to be a jam-packed season of shows for Bruce Peninsula. However, we did just book a couple and we will be posting details very shortly. It's been a long time since our last one (all painted up as skeletons at the Horseshoe in October) so we're really looking forward to it.

Thanks to everyone that has visited the site in the last few days and to those who have passed The Swimming Song around on their Facebook and Twitters. Check back in here on April 26th for the second installment of the Fire Sale.

Oh and Small Town Murder Songs, the movie that features lots of our music is having screenings in Waterloo and Ottawa and a handful of film festivals over the next month or so. Check out the film's website or Facebook for details.

Welcome to the online home of Bruce Peninsula and the Bruce Trail Fire Sale. Our friend Ted worked tirelessly to bring you all these crazy layers and we couldn't be happier. Ted works at night so our schedules were pretty much inverted and it was tough for him to get answers out of us because we were always sleeping when he was working. Our endless thanks to him for persevering.

Hit up the audio and video tree limbs to hear our version of The Swimming Song and stay tuned for the next installment in the series. We'll be posting that on April 26th.

Remission

Just a quick word to say that Neil is officially done his chemotherapy and is now in remission. Now that the nice weather has hit, he's working on getting back in shape and BP are gonna spend the spring getting reacquainted and rehearsing, but stay tuned for show announcements and more details about our record. You should also probably check back here late this or early next week. We've been scheming.

On Dec. 22, 2010 Neil Haverty, one of the central voices of Bruce Peninsula, was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia

The Good News : Neil's is "the best" kind of cancer you can get according to all the doctors who have spoken with Neil and his family. There is a 95% cure rate associated with his treatment plan and an 80% chance that it won't return. He has already completed the first round of his chemotherapy and he is optimistic about a full recovery.

What Can I Do? : Support the fundraiser! All the money raised from this event will go directly to help Neil and the Haverty family to lessen the financial burden that inevitably comes with illness.

Healing Power in 2011

Inhabitants of the Bruce Peninsula Multi-verse

As we close the door on 2010 we'd like to thank all of those who came out to our shows, took the time to explore our recordings and supported the BP vessel as it navigated the waters of a crazy crazy year.

So, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that our plans for 2011 are currently on hold.

Neil Haverty has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia.

The good news is that it is a highly treatable form of cancer that has a 95% success rate associated with Neil's treatment. He is supported by a wide network of friends and family who are standing behind him in this difficult time.

As for the band: We are not breaking up. We will not stop recording. But for the immediate future, all of our touring plans are cancelled while Neil works toward a full recovery.

What Neil needs most right now are positive vibes, well wishes, and love concoctions of the highest caliber. If you are a fan, friend or foe and would like to send Neil some healing power, please send all messages to : neilhaverty@gmail.com

It's gonna be a while before we have a proper new release from Bruce Peninsula but that doesn't mean we're stagnant. We're well on our way to finishing a host of BP releases but we're all busy otherwise too. Wanted to tell you about two new releases from members of the Bruce...

First up is Daniel Romano's new full-length, Working For The Music Man, which prominently features our own Misha Bower. She's on almost all the tracks and it's a real beautiful piece of art. Visit Dan's myspace to get some more information and keep an eye out for a new Romano 7" called Songs For Misha, which were actually written about our girl. I only mention that because I'm sure it will make her blush.

Next is The Lake Vernon Drowning, which is the solo project of our bass and lapsteel player Andrew Barker. Man of Leisure / Man Of War is a great accomplishment for Andrew and showcases all the other things he can do that you don't hear in Bruce Peninsula. Did you know that his day job is as a guitar teacher? He's also a really great lyricist and programmer. MOL/MOW is a really interesting mix of electronics, guitars and bourbon in the basement at 5am. You can buy it on CD or mp3 here.

Steve is nearly done his own record and it should surface on Fuzzy Logic Recordings any day now. Matt, Amy, Tamara and Daniela have all started their own new solo records as well. All should hopefully start bubbling to the surface over the next few months.

Thanks for supporting our rag-tag crew. Hope it tides you over until the next legit BP recording makes it into the light.

For the next two weeks we'll be digging our heads into the sand,
toiling away in the studio and trying to finish our new record.

We have lots of songs to record. Some are just fragments that well
dress up in the room. Others have travelled with us for the better
part of the year.

We are hoping that it all adds up to a full-length. Here's hoping!

Quad Cities

We are just over the river from Rock Island, Illinois, staying at a
hotel / casino in Iowa. We've almost had enough tequila to try our
hand at some slots. Not quite, but soon no doubt.

Today we got up very early to get to our Daytrotter session. What
these guys are doing is amazing. A session or two a day every day for
the last four years meanse over 1000 recordings. They were so kind to
us, even if we felt a little uneasy with the breakneck speed of it
all. We'll post up the results here when they go online. For now,

Detroit

Made it across the border today with no trouble. A simple "have fun"
from the border guard and we were on our way.

We seem to be sitting just on the outskirts of Downtown Detroit. A bit
dead here but it Wednesday night and the Majestic are treating us
really well. We were asked if we were French by a local and when we
said no he told us that Detroit was originally a French settlement.
Sounds much more exotic when you pronounce the city name that way.

Anyhow, on to Ann Arbour to sleep tonight and to Chicago tomorrow.

Kickstarted

We officially started recording album two this weekend, though most of it will be done over two weeks in May. The stuff we worked out in the last couple days will also be used in a great new movie. More details on that very soon.

For now, we set our sights on Guelph, Sarnia, Detroit, Chicago and Galesburg! A Daytrotter session thrown in their to boot. We're so excited to go to the States again. If you know anybody in those places, please let them know we're coming. We don't know many people in the US but last time we were there we were floored by everybody's hospitality and general good nature. We can only assume that's about to happen again.

I think maybe we stayed up too late last night.

Yesterday started with an early rise for a radio taping that turned
out to be cancelled. It was ok though because it took us to a
beautiful part of South Austin where we gorges ourselves on breakfast
tacos and wandered around thrift shops and BBQ parties.

Eventually made our way back downtown just in time for more tacos and
Taylor's set. Timber Timbre is becomming a force to be reckoned with.
There set last night had more brimstone and fire than Ive ever seen
them muster before.

Some stayed back to watch BSS while the rest of us went to the French
Kiss showcase to catch Antlers and Les Savy Fav. Both were great, the
latter especially awesome. If you ever have the chance to catch LSF,
do whatever you can to get there.

Many free tequilas later and we were back in the hotel room doing
group singing of guilty pleasures. You know, BP's version of Unchained
Melody wasn't half bad.

It's 4pm and we haven't moved yet. The fest is going on but we are all
relishing in the relaxation, calling our loved ones and watching
women's basketball.

I guess well go back downtown soon. Gotta catch as much as we can
before our grueling drive. See you in Toronto on Thursday everybody.

Texan heat

We all look like cherry tomatos. We have been wandering around Austin
for the last 3 days and everything they say about SXSW is true. It is
100% insanity.

Stand in any one place and you can hear 7 bands at once. Get into a
club after a long line and barely move because the bodies outnumber
the square footage. Everyone is selling themselves or ruining their
livers. It is almost exactly as I'd picture a massive star trek
covention, but with a different kind of nerd. Beards and boots and
southern belles everywhere we look.

We get today and tomorrow to do whatever we want. Our responsibilities
are over after yesterday's two shows and today's cancelled radio
appearance. I imagine that we will consume much alcohol, get sun
stroke and hopefully catch a band or two. I'd like to find our buddies
in Timber Timbre or Wooden Sky but it's a real needle in a haystack
kind of vibe here.

Wish us luck for our big stupid drive home on Sunday!

Monroe

Sitting in a rocking chair in Monroe, Louisiana. We got a heaping dose
of Southern Hospitality courtesy of a friend of a friend whose
parents, Ed and Joy, so kindly gave us beds and breakfast for the night.

We have about 7 hours until Austin and then well be right in the thick
of the biggest party of the year. Wish us luck!

After Austin well be shooting home for a show in Toronto on Thursday
and one at the Wave in London on Friday. That show is FREE and it's
the official release party of the new split with the Gertrudes, who we
can't wait to see play again. Come out if you can.

America has been kind to us. This won't be the last time we come to
visit.

Troutville

Drinking beers at the Travelodge in Troutville, Virginia, watching Tim and Eric Awesome Show. This show is insane.

Last night in Brooklyn will go down as our first truly great American show. Friday in Piano's was a blast too, but we felt a little out of place in downtown Manhattan and we played at 8:30pm so there were only a handful of people in the bar. Last night at Union Pool though was everything we hoped for out of a New York show. A very attentive crowd, some tasty tacos on the patio and a full blown dance party to end the night.

We're on our way to Charlotte tomorrow for a show at Snug Harbour. We are excited to enter into North Carolina and will probably listen to the audiobook of the Merge book to get pumped up on our way into the state. Can't believe we're just a couple days away from SXSW. We have been practicing drinking beer all week.

More to come. The exclaim blog seems to be taking a while to set up, so we'll probably just post up here whenever we have something to say. And hey, Toronto, we hear tickets are selling pretty well for The Garrison show next Thursday, so you should head down to Soundscapes or Rotate to pick one up.

New York Day 2

Word has it that we'll be getting copies of the new split 7" in about a week. We won't be able to send any out until we get home from our trip to the States (around March 24th), but we're taking pre-orders now at the information page here. You can also stream both songs there.

1 -- On February 13th, A Mountain Is A Mouth will be officially available to the import-adverse, record-buying public of Australia via Sensory Projects and Inertia Distribution. We recently landed rotation on FBI and we're working to get the cats at Triple J to pick it up. Please request it! 2 -- We are heading to the US for the first time in March, with 2 NY shows, a Charlotte, NC show and a showcase at SXSW between March 12th and 21st. There will also be a Black Sheep Inn show in Wakefield, QC on March 11th and some Southern Ontario dates on the back end of the tour. Keep your eye on the shows page for all the details. We are excited and a little frightened, all at the same time.

3 -- We recently teamed up with our friends in Muskox to record a reprise of Shanty Song. They played the music and we sang along, with Neil and Misha switching of leads and all the new choir girls cooing. Our friends in Kingston, The Gertrudes and PS I Love You teamed up for a great collab of their own and both songs will be featured on a split 7", to be released in late March. It's a co-release between our own Bruce Trail and the Gertrudes' Apple Crisp Records. It's at the plant now. We'll post more details as we know them.

4 -- We are hard at work preparing songs for record number two. We have been in the midst of a fit of creativity and things are moving along quicker than they ever have. The plan is to record the whole record in May, which will be a feat for us after taking a year and a half to make AMIAM. Stay tuned for more details on this and a few other releases we hope to have out before 2010 comes to a close.

Australia!

Hello BP massive,

We are very pleased to announce that we will be releasing A Mountain
Is A Mouth in Australia on February 13th, 2010. Many thanks to our
friend Ghita, who introduced to her friend Steve, who runs a great
little label called Sensory Projects. Luckily for us, Steve loves our
record and offered to do a run for the Australian public.

Many more details to come. Canadians, if you have an Australian
friend, please tell them about our band. We are starting to figure out
how to make the trip happen too, though that seems pretty expensive at
the moment.

Two Night Stand

We are excited to officially announce our two night stand at the Music Gallery on November 27th and 28th at the Music Gallery. We're all very fond of the space, having spent some serious time there while recording AMIAM, and hope you'll come join us. We hope to have some new things to show you by then.

These shows will be our last for a while because we're going to spend the winter writing and hopefully recording new songs. Unless something to good to be true comes up, this will be Toronto's last chance to see us until the spring. We promise it will be magic. Come!

Arrived home last night from what we're calling the best tour we've ever had. It was just so chock-full of amazing moments and weird happenings that we'll remember it for the rest of our lives.

We're inspired to work on new music now more than ever and so, after a few Toronto shows in November (including two special Music Gallery shows at the end of the month), we're planning to retreat for the winter. This will hopefully weild a couple of 7"s, a 12" and a full-length record by this time next year.

That's the plan, anyhow. We're not always so strict about our plans, but take comfort in the fact that this tour and all the beautiful things that came with it lit a raging fire beneath us.

See you in Toronto in November, or else we'll see you next year.

New Brunny

Nice time had in Sherbrooke. Tasty burgers, appreciative crowd, pretty
town. We witnessed a pretty grizzly car accident but we are trying not
to let it phase us.

Last night in Saint John was a rager. Our host was a totally loveable
drunk guy, the house was the perfect type for a show like that and, oh
yeah, the cops shut us down!

We played a loose and dirty set that was a little too loud for a
Monday but, despite the police presence, we played through to the
bitter end. It was Crabapples as protest song, including a nice little
Shout-style whisper breakdown that erupted into a full-blown gang
chant. It will go down as one of our finest memories.

In PEI tonight for what's shaping up to be a great show, then onto
Halifax tomorrow. More correspondence to come.

Right in the World

I'm staring out of a huge window into the belly of the Ottawa valley.
We are shacked up at the gorgeous home of Adam & Kim in Burnstown, the
site of what we're calling one of our top three favourite shows of all
time. Last night at Neaf was a kind of magic people rarely get to
partake in. An appreciative audience, a delicious meal, a real sense
of artisans and townspeople in love with one another and a pair of
hosts more gracious and generous than people are meant to be.

We had our fair share of fun times in Kingston and Ottawa, to be sure,
but Burnstown is one for the history books.

A million times, thank you.

Always seems a little quiet around here when we're getting ready for a run of shows but believe me, if you were here at the headquarters, you'd want us to shut up about things already.

We're plotting out our fall and gearing up for a trip to small towns and big cities East of us over the course of October. Montreal up on Wednesday, Toronto Thursday, Guelph on Friday, then getting in the van and heading for Kingston, Ottawa, Sherbrooke, Rothesay, Charlottetown, Halifax, Sackville and Fredericton. At least 3 of those places we've never been to before. I think we're excited to land on the island, most of all.

Actually, what's got us excited is new blood. Steve's gonna be in Mexico with work so Leon is sitting in for the tour and Kari is staying home with her man/Daniela straight hustlin', so we spread our arms out and scooped up Amy Learmouth (aka The Youngest) and Ivy Mairi to help us out. A big sloppy BP welcome will surely come sometime, somewhere on the highway.

That's all for now. The new year is shaping up. But as always, we're planning to hide out for a while up front, just to make sure our ducks are lined up.

You may have noticed some trouble with the website and myspace over the last few weeks. We just underwent a server change and it went South for a little while there. Back up and running now. In the coming weeks we're gonna give this place a face lift and try to work out some of the bugs. We'd always rather be writing songs than writing code, but we know that sometimes it just has to be done.

Many thanks to our most distinguished friend and roommate Mike Smith of Muskox for offering us some of his web property. And also a big thanks to Cam and Escape Goat for putting up with our backdoor e-shenanigans for the last few years.

To start, a straight-up 'thanks for coming!' to everybody that wandered around the island and took in that beautiful lightning storm with us yesterday. It was a perfectly imperfect day, don't you think?

Today we've been putting some more shows together. New ones announced in Montreal, Guelph, Peterborough and Halifax and hopefully there'll be many more to come. We're going to try our hands at crossing the border very soon but not before we play a hometown rally at the Horseshoe on October 1st. A scant few more details can be found on the shows page.

Pictures from our tour will hopefully be up here within the week and somewhere down the line, soon enough, 15 minutes of new recorded music will surface. We're currently just debating what form it should take.

Sit tight. Keep cool. Drink some water. Watch out for fire ants.

Island Show next Sunday

Now that the municipal workers' strike is over, plans for Matt's Island Treasure Hunt are back on. On Sunday August 9th, we will all over take Toronto Island for a day of music.

This is the event's third year and the line-up is as good as ever, with sets from some of our favourites... Feuermusik big band, The Silt, Castlemusic, Isla Craig, $100 and many more. We'll do a short acoustic set as Bruce Trail sometime during the day. For all the pertinent details, as they get nailed down, stick close to the Stillepost thread.

We're home. The basement is littered with gear and we're trying to sleep in and love our loved ones as much as possible. Hillside was a big sloppy finishing move that couldn't have been more awesome. Maybe just a little less rain would have helped but, even that, we wouldn't trade for anything.

Now it's on to the next plan. We're working out the trajectory for an Eastern Canada trip in October and putting together a couple of home town parties too. It's nice to be away from her every now and then but Toronto really is a catch and we'd like to rekindle our romance. Now, if the ferries would just start running again, we'd be in business.

Sept 19th we're at LOLA in London. We're probably playing somewhere close on the 11th and 12th too. October 1st we're at the Shoe in Toronto. More announcements to come, but we need a couple of days to recouperate.

Ontariariario

And so begins our slow descent towards our home turf. Excuse the lack
of updates over the last handful of days but we've been busy living
(driving mostly, actually).

On Monday we linked up with our friend Jon-Rae Fletcher and his
wonderful band in Vancouver. It was sad to say goodbye to our new
friends in Rock Plaza Central but they were statebound. JR and company
welcomed us with open arms and BC showed up in droves to see us.
Biltmore Cabaret was a blast, the ferry to Victoria and subsequent
party at Logan's were pretty special and Kelowna ran a tight ship and
offered up lots of eye candy.

The drive from Kelowna to Lethbridge, hugging but never crossing the
US border, is one of the most beautiful treks you'll ever see in this
country. Any country, for that matter. If you ever have the chance, we
strongly encourage you to see it with your own eyes. The show in
Lethbridge was tough to get through after 12 hours of driving but the
crowd were glad to see us and that's gotta count for something.

Then last night came the thrilling surprise of the tour - Regina. Who
would have thought that this unassuming town would come out with such
force? We've been playing in Ontario for three years and still, we
likely haven't faced a crowd that went so bonkers in all that time. We
are all getting a little tired from all the driving and floor sleeping
but Regina was a paddle to the chest that has us grinning ear to ear
today. Thank you to everyone that made us feel so good on the last day
of the Western leg of this tour.

Now we are on our way through monstrous Ontario again. On Tuesday we
land in Montreal, then QC, then Ottawa and Hillside. Daniela will be
rejoining us after a short detour, and Thom, Leon and Tamara are
coming to join in on the fun.

It'll be nice to be back on familiar ground but we can't help but feel
that it all went by a little too fast. Oh well. There's always next
time.

Old Albertan Crawl

So, it seems that Albertans are some of the kindest and most
hospitable people in Canada. Obviously a thankful nod should be given
to Rob and Fran and Rich and the beautiful people of Saskatoon before
we get to the Albertans but it's hard to think when there's a stack of
Danishes in front of you.

On Thursday, Andrea's family were nice enough to let us loiter on the
hardwood floors and couches of their beautiful suburban Edmonton home.
And last night we were treated like kings in Calgary, with beer and
pizza to greet us at Jules and Eric's cozy cottage house. It really
rejuvinates your van-overloaded mind when people go out of their way
to make you feel comfortable at their home. Thank you. A million times
thank you.

The shows have been great too. Been able to try out each of the new
songs once so far and will keep doing so as the tour progresses. Oh,
and we had a good time performing at the Calgary radio station
yesterday too.

Onto Canmore later today, but not before some much needed R&R. Taking
it easy with coffee and Danishes, showers and laundry. What a life.

In the van and headed for Saskatoon after playing Winnipeg last night.

Yesterday we splurged and got a couple nice rooms with a kitchen and
made a big pasta dinner before we went to play the show. We can't be
doing that every night or we'll come back broke but it was nice to
have a solid shower and sleep before this gargantuan drive today.

Thanks to the nice folks in Winnipeg for coming out on a Tuesday night
to listen intently.

We just stopped for gas and the kind old men hanging around the garage
bullied us into singing for them. Hopefully we can post a video in the
coming days. That's just one of a few strange things to happen to us
so far. More to come, to be sure.

Day One

Sitting in the back row of our big ass desiel van and thought now was
as good a time as any to start our tour blog.

We've already listened to two records all the way through; an old one
from Tony Sherr and a new one from Wilco. That doesn't bode well for
our relatively small CD wallet. A couple of audio books should take a
fair chunk of time to get through, but I have a feeling well be coming
back around to Sherr before the trip is through.

We've got about 9 hours until we hit the Beaver Inn in Wawa, where
we'll be recieved by the conveniently named Bruce family.

Boot Camp

Well, here we go. The all-consuming month of July.

It's Canada Day today so we're taking it (relatively) easy today. Just
doing some laundry and trying to learn a couple covers. Tomorrow and
Friday though, we mean business. We are hellbent on bringing our two
newest songs on the road with us and we seem to be getting close. By
the time the weekend is over, they should be ready to join the pack.

Saturday night, Matt's Goin' Steady dance party celebrates it's fourth
year anniversary at the boat but we're still gonna get him up bright
and early on Sunday morning so we can get to Wawa by dark.

We are still looking for some kind folks that could offer us floors or
couches to sleep on, or at least to suggest a cheap motel, hostel or
dorm room we can inhabit for the night. We have some places already
but we are still scratching our heads about Winnipeg, Saskatoon,
Edmonton, Lethbridge, Regina, Quebec City and maybe Ottawa. Leave a

Our utmost thanks for the fun day outside yesterday. Rainy as hell but you stuck it out and we'll remember your smiling faces huddled under that tarp.

Also, Neil is totally red-faced this afternoon and wants to say sorry and "oh my god, duh" to the always lovely Annie CLIFFORD. For those who didn't already have a laugh about it, it should be noted that Annie SHAW was nowhere near Kingston yesterday. Brain farts are much louder through a microphone.

Some of us are going to catch the Gertrudes at the Rivoli tonight for the last throes of NXNE. We think you should probably go too because these guys are kings and queens. See you at 9pm.

Healthy Competition

Today we were Long Listed for Polaris. It makes us feel proud and it also makes us feel kind of funny. In the last hour we got one Google Alert that said we were the deserving underdog and another that said we were the most over-rated of the bunch.

Either way, thanks to everyone for their congrats. And big high fives to the other bands on the list, and high tens to our close buddies Timber Timbre and Snailhouse.

As for our vote, if we were allowed to make it, I think most of us feel like Chad VanGaalen's record was the best of the year.

What we're really looking forward to is our tour. Please come out to one of the shows! We're gonna be chiseled old people by the time all that driving is over with. The dates, in case you haven't seen 'em, are here...

Hey friends. Some new BP family-related projects to tell you about.

Casey's band ohbijou are releasing album number two tomorrow and we think some serious shit is about to go down for them. We can't think of a more deserving bunch of people. What we've heard of Beacons is absolutely beautiful and everyone involved should be proud of the top-notch fidelity and spot-on playing. It's really lovely music and that's something we all need more of. Visit their myspace for all the pertinent details.

Secondly, we have Self-Help, which was recently released by our bro Thom Gill. It's ultra-smooth and sexy and features some serious guitar work and that trademark slithering coo from the man in the blue pants. We can't find a picture of it. You should just message Thom at myspace and get yourself a copy.

Katie Stelmanis has a new 7" out on Vice / Loog and also Isla Craig is holding her CD release this Saturday at St. Andrew-By-The-Lake on the island. Both of those recordings are off-the-chain too.

We picked a great time to induct Tamara Lindeman as an occasional choir member, didn't we? She starts singing with us just as her own band, the Weather Station, release their beautiful debut.

Tamara and the rest of her band will be playing shows all around this summer and we think you should go see them. Just listening to The Line now and can tell you its a real raw nerve. Why don't you find out for yourself by buying the mp3s or at least listening to the Weather Station at myspace.

In other BP side project news... Andrew is putting the very final touches on his new record Man of Leisure / Man of War. It's release is imminent... Steve recently joined forces with Fuzzy Logic Records for a limited re-release of his Whistle EP and, presumably, some new recordings will be birthed by the newlyweds sometime soon... Casey's new ohbijou record Beacons is just moments from release... Mike, Isla and Katie have new ones coming soon too. Busy year for all the random affiliates of BP, huh?

The dates aren't officially locked in yet, but we can tell you now that we're going out to Vancouver and back in July with our friends in Rock Plaza Central. We'll also do a bunch of things around Ontario in the later portion of the month, but we can't really talk about that stuff yet. We're excited to play a bunch of shows in a row and to see the other side of this beautiful country of ours.

Also, we're trying really hard to get the vinyl version of AMIAM done for then. So far things haven't fallen perfectly into place but we're trying! More news on that soon.

Oh, and if you're in Toronto tonight, Misha, Matt, Neil and Andrew are playing an acoustic set in a little boat in a sandbox in the park at Bellwoods and Dundas. Our friends Rolf from the Acorn and John from the D'urbervilles will also play sets of their own. Come find us around 8pm.

We are lining up our ducks for the summer and, from the outside, it might look like we are hiding out again. Actually, we will be trying to finish up some new jams, putting the final pieces on the 12 inch and getting a solid set in order for when things really start heating up.

We havent yet decided our exact course but we are planning to explore our country a little in July. We will go further than our band has ever gone and spend a lot more time with one another than people reasonably should. More details on that as soon as we have them.

Torontonians, we hope to see you on Saturday. It will be the last for a few months, at least.

Loo, Lee's & King's Town

Lots of people asking about advance tickets for these three shows in March. We'll do our best to run down what we know about those shows here.

That's what the Grist Mill looks like. It's damn charming but it's not that big. We hear the capacity is about 70 or 80. We also know that there are no advanced tickets for entry into this magical place. Lots of people have emailed us about this show worried that they won't get in. We don't know what to say about that, really, except come early! Doors are at 8pm.

The Grist Mill is located just to the North of the building at 25 Caroline St North, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, N2L 2Y5. It's at the South East corner of Waterloo Park (to the immediate North of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery).

It's funny to be playing a 70-person venue at the start of the month and a 620-person venue at the end. We need everyone in Toronto to come to this! It'll be our last show in town until the summertime. It's also Sister Suvi's CD release party and the first time we'll get to see Takka Takka. It'll be a good time, so please come out. Tickets are $8 and available now at the usual places (Rotate, Soundscapes or even Ticketmaster).

Lots are planned for the days following March but there's not much we can announce just yet. April and May are looking a little low-key but the summer will bring on a storm for Bruce Peninsula. We're very much looking forward to it.

We'll be playing a couple songs on Q on CBC Radio 1 on Friday, Feb 7th. Sometime between 10am and noon. Steve is coming in from Lindsay, Daniela from Fort Eerie and Misha from London. We have to be there at 7:30 am, so I guess its coffee coffee coffee.

We've always wondered what the CBC building looked like inside. Just one more random place we get to explore because we have a new record.

More importantly though, we'd like to let everyone know how entirely thrilled we were by the party on Sunday night. Thank you to all of our friends and family members and neighbours and co-workers (and to all the friendly strangers) for coming out to celebrate A Mountain Is A Mouth with us this weekend (on Oscar night, no less).

To anybody that lended a hand to make it run smoothly and to those that gave us a pat on the back after we played, you made all our work over the past couple years worth it in just one night.

We'll remember that one forever.

Below is a Youtube clip of Shanty Song and a short interview for a series called Soundcheck, made by a couple guys named Colin Medley and Brad Frenette for the National Post. We popped down to the Distillery District to film it before our soundcheck at the Horseshoe a couple weeks back.

Soon we'll post the stuff we recorded for Scott Cudmore's Camera Music, which is considerably more raw but cool because it gave a chance to get over the dissapointment of the cancelled Peterborough show snow day.

What we've noticed is that these videos are always strange for us to watch. Maybe a 4x4 embedded video player just doesn't do enough to properly portray the way we sound, or maybe it's just that we're sheepish about seeing ourselves on screen because we're normal self-concious human beings.

Either way, a few people have been asking to tape our shows lately and our answer to that will always be yes. We like to get a chance to see them before they end up in one of those little 4x4 screens but generally we feel that, like a leaking record, there's little we can (should?) do to stop it.

Hope you enjoy this and the other things that surface. And feel free to let us know what it looks like from outside the BP bubble. Cause we have no idea.

Public chatter

So, we've been very lucky to get a boatload of press lately, mostly good. Our former fourteen-year-old selves are freaking out about the coverage in Globe & Mail and Pitchfork and the like but the adult us are most flattered with a review on a blog called Obscure Sound. It landed in our Google Alert inbox a couple days ago and, reading through it, we couldn't help but be touched by the time that Mike Mineo has clearly spent with our record and the thoughtful things he had to say in response.

We're well aware that press is just about angles and snappy copy, but every so often something like this comes along and proves that people are truly listening and that music journalism doesn't have to be all superlatives and regurgitated press releases.

Dearest Peterborough

We are so sorry we had to turn around on Wednesday. We drove for two hours in the snowy stopped traffic and only got as far as Don Mills and Eglington. We estimate it would have taken 6 hours all in to get to Peterborough. Considering it normally takes about 1.5, you can understand our predicament. Still, we were very upset. We were really looking forward to the show. A make-up date will be announced shortly.

Hopefully folks in London and Toronto and Guelph will come and make us feel better about missing our first show back. Tonight we're at Grooves and Call The Office, Saturday at the Horseshoe and Sunday at Vinyl. It would be nice to see you if you can make it!

Also, we have had lots of good (and bad) press come at us this week. Take a trip over to the Press section of this site to read them. Also, Tuesday is the big release day (but check your local shop because a little birdy told us that some stores have started selling it early).

Friends, at home and abroad

A Mountain Is A Mouth will finally see a physical release in Canada this coming Tuesday, February 3rd. We're thrilled that the day is finally upon us. If you live where we live, please come out to a show in February or seek out our record in stores. If you don't find it at your favourite record shop, please tell your friendly clerk that maybe their store should order our record from Outside Distribution.

As for folks outside of Canada, you can order the double deliver (CD+MP3) here, but we realize that it's a bit pricey when you factor in the extra postage. We ask that you please just be patient with us and know that we're working on it.

We're actively trying to find new friends in other countries that could help AMIAM spread it's wings, but it's going to take a little time. Please email us if you have any suggestions for labels or distro companies that might be a good fit.

A couple of nice bloggers have included our record in their best of 2008 lists. We are obviously honoured to be included in lists like that but we want to stress that A Mountain Is A Mouth is a 2009 release. The official release date has always been February 3rd.

We chose to release it online in December because putting it out ourselves allows us that freedom and we were sick of waiting... but we won't consider it "out" until we're actually holding copies in our hands.

So, many thanks for the write ups but also sorry to any bands that may have been robbed of a spot on these lists because of our impatience and disregard for traditional release schedules.

Toronto -- A Mountain Is A Mouth is the first full-length from Toronto-based big band Bruce Peninsula. We wanted to tell you about the new record from our friend and occasional bandmate Timber Timbre. It's out next month on Stuart Duncan's Out of This Spark label and we're all enthralled by it.

Misha, Matt, Neil and Steve had the honour of lending some ohs and ahs to the record and our friend Chris Stringer helped him make it, but all the real magic comes out of 'Ol T. He's an old soul with a complex heart and these songs give us a small glimpse into it.

We're lucky to have met Taylor and look forward to spending more time with him. He'll open some shows in Peterborough, Montreal and Ottawa and will have his own trajectory around Valentine's to officially unveil the record.

We realize that our nice new website has broken a cardinal rule. That is... the only reason that people should come to a band's website is to listen to the band.

We're working on getting some easy streaming happening here but it takes time and effort that has been concentrated elsewhere lately. We know, and are working to remedy it.

Be patient. We realize that all of this info is useless if you can't actually listen to us. When you're done here, please go over to the myspace, which has both of the 7" sides and a couple tracks from AMIAM.

Very very soon there will be music on this site. That is a promise.

Chipping away

Seems we dissapear every few months, doesn't it? This time we're working hard on getting A Mountain Is A Mouth ready for release. A lot more involved in that then we initially thought but we're learning a lot along the way.

While those gears are turning, we're slowly working on a 15-minute piece involving much stomping and strange patterns. We'll hopefully have that finished in the next month or so. It will be released on a 12 inch slab of vinyl, split with our old friend Sandro Perri's Polmo Polpo project. So far it seems that this will sound unlike any BP you've ever heard before.

Other songs are coming together too. We hope to go back into the studio just as the new year rolls around. No idea what form those recordings will take just yet, but we're heading in new directions and are excited to record them. We promise it won't take us so long to finish a record next time. For our own sanity, mostly.

More details on A Mountain Is A Mouth coming shortly.

Still working on the streaming players too. They're taking a little longer to put together than we planned.

The Persuasions

Just a quick post to say that we just returned home from Montreal, where we were honoured to open for the magnificent Persuasions, a 5-man a cappella group that had our jaws on the floor from start to finish.

This was truly gorgeous music made by wonderfully kind and charismatic men. We urge you to seek out their music and to tell you that, if you have the chance, go and see them. You'll leave with a full heart, a smile on your face and residual shivers down your spine.

Hey everybody.

Welcome to Bruce Peninsula's new home on the internet. We've been working to make it functional, in the hopes that anybody in the band can keep it up to date without too much hassle. So far, it seems to be working.

You'll find all kinds of things here. Most importantly, you'll find information about the release of our new full-length record A Mountain Is A Mouth. Just go to the Music tab and click on the cover.

We're excited to tell you that the record is mastered and heading into the reproduction process. We are releasing it independently, but not without some help from our friends. It will be released digitally just after the new year and in physical form on February 3rd 2008. More details soon.

We're working on streaming players that will allow you to listen through the record. Please check back here in the next few weeks and hopefully we'll have them up. We can't wait for folks to hear it. We've been sitting on it for far too long.
