Kickstarted

We officially started recording album two this weekend, though most of it will be done over two weeks in May. The stuff we worked out in the last couple days will also be used in a great new movie. More details on that very soon.

For now, we set our sights on Guelph, Sarnia, Detroit, Chicago and Galesburg! A Daytrotter session thrown in their to boot. We're so excited to go to the States again. If you know anybody in those places, please let them know we're coming. We don't know many people in the US but last time we were there we were floored by everybody's hospitality and general good nature. We can only assume that's about to happen again.

April 23 - May 1

One more

I think maybe we stayed up too late last night.

Yesterday started with an early rise for a radio taping that turned
out to be cancelled. It was ok though because it took us to a
beautiful part of South Austin where we gorges ourselves on breakfast
tacos and wandered around thrift shops and BBQ parties.

Eventually made our way back downtown just in time for more tacos and
Taylor's set. Timber Timbre is becomming a force to be reckoned with.
There set last night had more brimstone and fire than Ive ever seen
them muster before.

Some stayed back to watch BSS while the rest of us went to the French
Kiss showcase to catch Antlers and Les Savy Fav. Both were great, the
latter especially awesome. If you ever have the chance to catch LSF,
do whatever you can to get there.

Many free tequilas later and we were back in the hotel room doing
group singing of guilty pleasures. You know, BP's version of Unchained
Melody wasn't half bad.

It's 4pm and we haven't moved yet. The fest is going on but we are all
relishing in the relaxation, calling our loved ones and watching
women's basketball.

I guess well go back downtown soon. Gotta catch as much as we can
before our grueling drive. See you in Toronto on Thursday everybody.

Texan heat

We all look like cherry tomatos. We have been wandering around Austin
for the last 3 days and everything they say about SXSW is true. It is
100% insanity.

Stand in any one place and you can hear 7 bands at once. Get into a
club after a long line and barely move because the bodies outnumber
the square footage. Everyone is selling themselves or ruining their
livers. It is almost exactly as I'd picture a massive star trek
covention, but with a different kind of nerd. Beards and boots and
southern belles everywhere we look.

We get today and tomorrow to do whatever we want. Our responsibilities
are over after yesterday's two shows and today's cancelled radio
appearance. I imagine that we will consume much alcohol, get sun
stroke and hopefully catch a band or two. I'd like to find our buddies
in Timber Timbre or Wooden Sky but it's a real needle in a haystack
kind of vibe here.

Wish us luck for our big stupid drive home on Sunday!

Monroe

Sitting in a rocking chair in Monroe, Louisiana. We got a heaping dose
of Southern Hospitality courtesy of a friend of a friend whose
parents, Ed and Joy, so kindly gave us beds and breakfast for the night.

We have about 7 hours until Austin and then well be right in the thick
of the biggest party of the year. Wish us luck!

After Austin well be shooting home for a show in Toronto on Thursday
and one at the Wave in London on Friday. That show is FREE and it's
the official release party of the new split with the Gertrudes, who we
can't wait to see play again. Come out if you can.

America has been kind to us. This won't be the last time we come to
visit.

Troutville

Drinking beers at the Travelodge in Troutville, Virginia, watching Tim and Eric Awesome Show. This show is insane.

Last night in Brooklyn will go down as our first truly great American show. Friday in Piano's was a blast too, but we felt a little out of place in downtown Manhattan and we played at 8:30pm so there were only a handful of people in the bar. Last night at Union Pool though was everything we hoped for out of a New York show. A very attentive crowd, some tasty tacos on the patio and a full blown dance party to end the night.

We're on our way to Charlotte tomorrow for a show at Snug Harbour. We are excited to enter into North Carolina and will probably listen to the audiobook of the Merge book to get pumped up on our way into the state. Can't believe we're just a couple days away from SXSW. We have been practicing drinking beer all week.

More to come. The exclaim blog seems to be taking a while to set up, so we'll probably just post up here whenever we have something to say. And hey, Toronto, we hear tickets are selling pretty well for The Garrison show next Thursday, so you should head down to Soundscapes or Rotate to pick one up.

New York Day 2

Hey everybody,

Just wanted to let you all know we crossed the border just fine (way less of a deal than we thought it would be) and played our first American show last night on the lower East side. It was rainy so the crowd was small but they seemed nice and friendly and into our set. Brooklyn at Union Pool tonight! Tell your friends!

We're gonna do a tour blog with Exclaim but it hasn't been set up yet.

Taking 7" Pre-orders

Word has it that we'll be getting copies of the new split 7" in about a week. We won't be able to send any out until we get home from our trip to the States (around March 24th), but we're taking pre-orders now at the information page here. You can also stream both songs there.

We climb back in the van in a few days. Our To Do list is monumental but our spirits are high. If you know anybody in New York, Charlotte or Austin, send them to listen to us at this site! We need whatever help we can get.

American Dates

the news

Hey friends. We have some things to tell you about.

1 -- On February 13th, A Mountain Is A Mouth will be officially available to the import-adverse, record-buying public of Australia via Sensory Projects and Inertia Distribution. We recently landed rotation on FBI and we're working to get the cats at Triple J to pick it up. Please request it! If you'd like to buy the Australian edition, or just find out more, please click here.

2 -- We are heading to the US for the first time in March, with 2 NY shows, a Charlotte, NC show and a showcase at SXSW between March 12th and 21st. There will also be a Black Sheep Inn show in Wakefield, QC on March 11th and some Southern Ontario dates on the back end of the tour. Keep your eye on the shows page for all the details. We are excited and a little frightened, all at the same time.

3 -- We recently teamed up with our friends in Muskox to record a reprise of Shanty Song. They played the music and we sang along, with Neil and Misha switching of leads and all the new choir girls cooing. Our friends in Kingston, The Gertrudes and PS I Love You teamed up for a great collab of their own and both songs will be featured on a split 7", to be released in late March. It's a co-release between our own Bruce Trail and the Gertrudes' Apple Crisp Records. It's at the plant now. We'll post more details as we know them.

4 -- We are hard at work preparing songs for record number two. We have been in the midst of a fit of creativity and things are moving along quicker than they ever have. The plan is to record the whole record in May, which will be a feat for us after taking a year and a half to make AMIAM. Stay tuned for more details on this and a few other releases we hope to have out before 2010 comes to a close.
