West coast in July

The dates aren't officially locked in yet, but we can tell you now that we're going out to Vancouver and back in July with our friends in Rock Plaza Central. We'll also do a bunch of things around Ontario in the later portion of the month, but we can't really talk about that stuff yet. We're excited to play a bunch of shows in a row and to see the other side of this beautiful country of ours.

Also, we're trying really hard to get the vinyl version of AMIAM done for then. So far things haven't fallen perfectly into place but we're trying! More news on that soon.

Oh, and if you're in Toronto tonight, Misha, Matt, Neil and Andrew are playing an acoustic set in a little boat in a sandbox in the park at Bellwoods and Dundas. Our friends Rolf from the Acorn and John from the D'urbervilles will also play sets of their own. Come find us around 8pm.

Spring

The last shackles of winter seem to be coming off. Still a little brisk here but the weather has started to allude to some enjoyable nights ahead.

We are lining up our ducks for the summer and, from the outside, it might look like we are hiding out again. Actually, we will be trying to finish up some new jams, putting the final pieces on the 12 inch and getting a solid set in order for when things really start heating up.

We havent yet decided our exact course but we are planning to explore our country a little in July. We will go further than our band has ever gone and spend a lot more time with one another than people reasonably should. More details on that as soon as we have them.

Torontonians, we hope to see you on Saturday. It will be the last for a few months, at least.

Loo, Lee's & King's Town

Lots of people asking about advance tickets for these three shows in March. We'll do our best to run down what we know about those shows here.

That's what the Grist Mill looks like. It's damn charming but it's not that big. We hear the capacity is about 70 or 80. We also know that there are no advanced tickets for entry into this magical place. Lots of people have emailed us about this show worried that they won't get in. We don't know what to say about that, really, except come early! Doors are at 8pm.

The Grist Mill is located just to the North of the building at 25 Caroline St North, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, N2L 2Y5. It's at the South East corner of Waterloo Park (to the immediate North of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery).

---> Toronto on March 28th w/ Sister Suvi and Takka Takka

It's funny to be playing a 70-person venue at the start of the month and a 620-person venue at the end. We need everyone in Toronto to come to this! It'll be our last show in town until the summertime. It's also Sister Suvi's CD release party and the first time we'll get to see Takka Takka. It'll be a good time, so please come out. Tickets are $8 and available now at the usual places (Rotate, Soundscapes or even Ticketmaster).

Lots are planned for the days following March but there's not much we can announce just yet. April and May are looking a little low-key but the summer will bring on a storm for Bruce Peninsula. We're very much looking forward to it.

CEE-BEE-CEE / PO-CO HALL

We'll be playing a couple songs on Q on CBC Radio 1 on Friday, Feb 7th. Sometime between 10am and noon. Steve is coming in from Lindsay, Daniela from Fort Eerie and Misha from London. We have to be there at 7:30 am, so I guess its coffee coffee coffee.

We've always wondered what the CBC building looked like inside. Just one more random place we get to explore because we have a new record.

More importantly though, we'd like to let everyone know how entirely thrilled we were by the party on Sunday night. Thank you to all of our friends and family members and neighbours and co-workers (and to all the friendly strangers) for coming out to celebrate A Mountain Is A Mouth with us this weekend (on Oscar night, no less).

To anybody that lended a hand to make it run smoothly and to those that gave us a pat on the back after we played, you made all our work over the past couple years worth it in just one night.

We'll remember that one forever.

Vid-ee-oh

Below is a Youtube clip of Shanty Song and a short interview for a series called Soundcheck, made by a couple guys named Colin Medley and Brad Frenette for the National Post. We popped down to the Distillery District to film it before our soundcheck at the Horseshoe a couple weeks back.

Soon we'll post the stuff we recorded for Scott Cudmore's Camera Music, which is considerably more raw but cool because it gave a chance to get over the dissapointment of the cancelled Peterborough show snow day.

What we've noticed is that these videos are always strange for us to watch. Maybe a 4x4 embedded video player just doesn't do enough to properly portray the way we sound, or maybe it's just that we're sheepish about seeing ourselves on screen because we're normal self-concious human beings.

Either way, a few people have been asking to tape our shows lately and our answer to that will always be yes. We like to get a chance to see them before they end up in one of those little 4x4 screens but generally we feel that, like a leaking record, there's little we can (should?) do to stop it.

Hope you enjoy this and the other things that surface. And feel free to let us know what it looks like from outside the BP bubble. Cause we have no idea.

Public chatter

So, we've been very lucky to get a boatload of press lately, mostly good. Our former fourteen-year-old selves are freaking out about the coverage in Globe & Mail and Pitchfork and the like but the adult us are most flattered with a review on a blog called Obscure Sound. It landed in our Google Alert inbox a couple days ago and, reading through it, we couldn't help but be touched by the time that Mike Mineo has clearly spent with our record and the thoughtful things he had to say in response.

We're well aware that press is just about angles and snappy copy, but every so often something like this comes along and proves that people are truly listening and that music journalism doesn't have to be all superlatives and regurgitated press releases.

Dearest Peterborough

We are so sorry we had to turn around on Wednesday. We drove for two hours in the snowy stopped traffic and only got as far as Don Mills and Eglington. We estimate it would have taken 6 hours all in to get to Peterborough. Considering it normally takes about 1.5, you can understand our predicament. Still, we were very upset. We were really looking forward to the show. A make-up date will be announced shortly.

Hopefully folks in London and Toronto and Guelph will come and make us feel better about missing our first show back. Tonight we're at Grooves and Call The Office, Saturday at the Horseshoe and Sunday at Vinyl. It would be nice to see you if you can make it!

Also, we have had lots of good (and bad) press come at us this week. Take a trip over to the Press section of this site to read them. Also, Tuesday is the big release day (but check your local shop because a little birdy told us that some stores have started selling it early).

Friends, at home and abroad

A Mountain Is A Mouth will finally see a physical release in Canada this coming Tuesday, February 3rd. We're thrilled that the day is finally upon us. If you live where we live, please come out to a show in February or seek out our record in stores. If you don't find it at your favourite record shop, please tell your friendly clerk that maybe their store should order our record from Outside Distribution.

As for folks outside of Canada, you can order the double deliver (CD+MP3) here, but we realize that it's a bit pricey when you factor in the extra postage. We ask that you please just be patient with us and know that we're working on it.

We're actively trying to find new friends in other countries that could help AMIAM spread it's wings, but it's going to take a little time. Please email us if you have any suggestions for labels or distro companies that might be a good fit.
